Long absence. Was I just neglectful or was I trying to make you long more for me?
Yeah, ok. It was the first one.
I've been spending some time with my network. No, not the guys from Verizon that follow me around all the time. (Although those guys are better than Starsky and Hutch in a chase scene) Nope, I've been working with our wireless network. There was a storm here a while back and the next day, we had no wireless. Actually, I had no internet at all until I unplugged the router and connected the PC directly. Clever dick that I am, I deduced that it was the router.
I finally broke down and ordered one online. For those of you who know me well, you can attest to how hard it is for me to part with my hard earned cash. I'm not cheap, I'm frugal. And Scottish. Sort of.
Anyway, the new router (Linksys WRT54G for those of you keeping track) arrived and I installed. Everything went great until I tried to connect the laptop. Leaving out details that might compromise security (cause, ya know, I'm such a ripe target for hackers), I had to re-install to get the security right. Dat's right! Security! Locked up like Fort Knocks, babee!! Ok, that's annoying and I won't be doing it anymore.
When I tried to reinstall, it insisted on a password where none had be required before. Hmmm. Tried the one I created. Nope. Tried the default. Nope. I spoke the word 'Friend'. Nope, and yes I am a nerd.
Finally after a couple days of this, much frustration at my inability to do anything hardware related, my wife points out that I wrote the password in all caps. Did I type it that way? What do you think, gentle reader?
No, of course I didn't type it that way. It would have been logical. It would have made sense. It would have been RIGHT.
Ahem. Sorry about that. I get a little frustrated with myself sometimes. Anyway, as usual, the wife was right. So now, the wireless is up, running, and secure. Yay me!
In other news, I'm a year older. I'd love to regale you with stories of how I celebrated my birthday Friday, but all I did was take the day off, play some computer games, see a movie (V for Vendetta=very good) and have dinner with my wife and my parents.
I'm a bit sad, actually. I went through my entire 37th year on this planet without being given an opportunity to use one of my favorite exchanges from Monty Python.
Arthur: Old woman!
Peasant: Man.
Arthur: Man, sorry. Who lives in yon castle?
Peasant: I'm thirty seven.
Arthur: What?
Peasant: I'm thirty seven. I'm not old.Well, you get the drift.
Well, that's a very long post for very little information and even less interest. (The lack of interest being on your part. I'm absolutely fascinated by my life.) I'll leave you with this. Looking for new music? Have no idea what's out there or how to find something that you might like? Try Pandora, something like a radio station that you can adjust to your taste. Check it out. You might as well do it now, because I'm done.
