Back in my college days, there was an unwritten rule about how long you had to wait if the professor was late for class. It all depended on the seniority of the professor. For a tenured professor, I think we waited twenty minutes and then declared the class cancelled.

Today, I showed up at work to find co-workers milling about the parking lot. I thought perhaps it was a strike except...
A) We're not union,
B) There were no picket signs and
C) It was too damn cold to picket.

Upon further investigation, I was informed that the security system for the building had freaked over the weekend and no one's code was working now. Being a loyal and dependable employee, I got back in my car to wait. I was considering how long I had to wait before declaring class cancelled today when the VP showed up and unlocked the door, thus setting off the burlar alarm.

It's a hell of a way to start the week, ain't it?
